Happiness Is...

The other day, one of my cute kindergarten friends came up to me after school and handed me this:
(I blocked out her name for privacy)
(Picture on the back)
This bracelet she also gave to me. She made it and was very excited to see me wearing it the next day. I actually have worn it twice to school now, and will wear it again :)
What a fun and unexpected surprise! I am lucky to have this job and to be able to influence so many kids (hopefully all for the better). Happy Day!!

Not Sure

So... Blogger has switched over to the "new" layout... and I find it is more confusing than the previous one.
I don't know how I feel about it. I don't like things to change (don't get me started on Facebook changing every time you turn around).
I'm sure that posting things will be easier, but reading my 'dashboard' page is way more confusing to me than it was before.
*ugh
What are your thoughts?

Bye Grammy Myrtle!

Laura's grandma passed away on Sunday. I knew her, and was friends with her. She was a great lady and I have been blessed to know her. She will be greatly missed. Love you, Grammy!! See you later, Alligator :)
Sending my thoughts, love, and prayers to the other members of her family who I am friends with: Laura, Linda, Leisha, Rhonda, and Vickie. Love you all!

Myrtle Nellie Thurston Gillett Weaver passed away at her home in Tualatin on Sept. 16, 2012. She was born June 28, 1927 to Arvin Ima Thurston and Maude Hazel Cook Thurston in Missoula, Mont. She married Fred Don Gillett in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple on Sept. 12, 1944 and they were together until his death Sept. 10, 1988. She later married Horace "Dee" Weaver and was widowed a second time when he passed away Nov. 21, 1995. Myrtle was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Can't Sleep? Update

Well friends, we are nearing the 10 o'clock hour and I have not had a wink of sleep since bedtime Sunday night!
I am not proud of this, but rather, puzzled.
Why would I still be functioning right now? I should have splattered out as soon as I got home from work.
Alas, here we are. I am, however feeling the urges of sleep over come me. Which is totally awesome.
I will postpone the inevitable for mere minutes, then I will get ready for bed. I am guessing I will be out like a light tonight.
I apologize in advance for any grumpy moments I may have tomorrow... but who knows, maybe I won't have any!!??

*this just in! My neck just popped!!! I have been trying all day to "release" the tension in my neck by getting it to pop. It has not worked until this moment. Oh, the relief :)
*we now return you to your regularly scheduled program

Well, thanks for reading! Wish me pleasant dreams.
~Later!

Can't Sleep??

It's 2:30 in the morning.
In 4hrs and 15 mins I am walking with my friend for our morning exercise.
In 6hrs and 15 mins I am supposed to be at work.
I can't sleep.
I've been in bed for almost 3 hours trying to fall asleep and it is not happening.
I've listened to music, deleted text messages, and looked thru videos and photos on my phone.
But that wasn't my plan at all.

I laid down and within 5 minutes I started thinking about walking in the morning and how, since I was sick this weekend, if I started to not be able to breathe, I would handle that. Then my mind went to when I've been hiking and when I've not been able to breathe because of asthma. Of course, when I'm hiking I always have someone with me to help... but what if I have a panic attack while I can't breathe? Then what is going to happen? How will I get calm enough to breathe when I already can't breathe?! Or what if I have a cold and my face is congested and I have a panic attack or asthma? THEN how will I breathe? My nose will be plugged and my throat will be constricted...
*Sit up and take a deep breath. Calm down. Lay back down in bed.

Next, my mind went to work.
If a child started choking on a piece of candy, do I know what to do? Is the Heimlich started at two fingers above the belly button? I can't remember. *panic* Well, once someone DID choke on a piece of candy - but it was after school and not at recess. Luckily she could talk, so I just talked to her and kept her calm until she could cough it out. But what if it's at recess? Am I going to remember what to do?
From choking, I went to basic first aid. Do I know what to do in such and such situation? What happens if someone literally breaks their head open, is unconscious, and starts throwing up? Well, that is what the "emergency" button on our walkie-talkies at work is for. (It sounds an 'emergency' alarm for 8 seconds, followed by 22 seconds of whoever is on channel being able to hear me and whatever is going on around me without me having to hold the PTT button down. *That's helpful in a stressful situation.) But what if whoever is on the other end doesn't respond? What if they're all busy?
I've had kids pass out, have seizures, get the wind knocked out of them, get bloody noses, lips, knees, and elbows, broken wrists, fingers, and arms, get stung by bees, have concussions, sprained ankles, jammed fingers, and once, someone fell off the monkey bars (like, THE most dangerous piece of playground equipment...), landed on his back and said he couldn't move, so we called the ambulance (after calling his mom - she said call the ambulance). Can I handle all that? Sure. But what if someone isn't breathing? Do I remember CPR? Do I remember how to treat for shock? Then my thoughts returned to choking. *I won't add in here my thoughts about CERT and how it freaks me out to be in the triage area...*

After first aid, I sat up and looked at the clock. About 50 minutes had elapsed since I'd laid down. *Sigh. Oh, look! Because I don't have glasses on or contacts in, the little light on the far side of the wall is so shiny and looks really big. Oh! and when I look at it and blink, there are bubbles and dots that move!! Look with both eyes, both eyes, cover left eye. Blink. Again. Cover right eye. Blink. Again. Both eyes. Blink. (Continue for the next 30 minutes) When my head started hurting from "playing" with the light, I laid down again.
I had a few peaceful minutes, then I was tossing again in bed. Couldn't get comfy. So, I turned on my music play list on my phone - that usually helps me fall asleep, if anything, it'll take my mind off of playground mishaps and CERT worries. Song 1... 2... 3... 4... I'm just singing along in my head. Song 5... makes me think of something that is on my phone, a video. I grab my phone and go to my videos. I watched nearly all of my videos, which, off the top of my head, is 40 minutes worth?? I could be wrong, it may only be 30 minutes. Either way, I watched the videos, then realized I didn't have one that I thought I should, so I go to my text messages and start saving then deleting photos that I'd "locked". I found the video I was looking for, so I saved it to my memory card (along with the other photos), then deleted the old messages from my phone. Song 6... 7... 8... 9... Still singing along. Except that's the end of my play list.

Look at the clock... it's 2:25. *Sigh.
Get out of bed and make a blog post.
Get a drink of water, and back to bed... praying that I fall asleep this time.
Grateful that this does not happen every night.

Monday Memories Week 7

My last few days in WA were filled with laughs, smiles, and all around fun :) Well, my whole trip was fun, as hopefully you can see by my previous blog posts.
On my last Sunday, I was able to get a picture with Kate.
She is awesome!
Thank you, Kate, for taking a picture with me!
Ya, this is me being goofy, as always. The hat and wristers (arm warmers) were made for me by Laura, and she is in the process of making a matching scarf. I can't wait to try them all out this winter. THANK YOU LAURA!!
Hopscotch, anyone?

On Wednesday, I was on Facebook goofing off and my cousin started messaging me. As it turns out, we were both in the same city in WA at the same time. He and his girlfriend came over to Laura's to visit me! It was so good to talk with him and get caught up. We haven't seen each other for at least 6 years. Love you, Josh!
If you remember the post with the blankets we made, there was some left over fabric from said blankets, so we decided to make some matching pillows. Since I was flying home the next day, we didn't stuff my pillows, but sewed them so they would fit in my suitcase.

That night, we went to the YW activity which was a baby shower for one of the leaders in YW. The next two pictures were taken by Nancy, the YW President.

The view from her back yard. Yes, she has a river going past her house. Near the beginning of my trip, this river actually flooded and water came up close to her house. Luckily, the river got cleaned out and the water receded.
Leave it to me to set a good example for all the YW there:
Yum. LOL. Wondering what I put in my mouth?
This yummy little fruit treat. In fact, the pictures of me putting this in my mouth are from the second time I did it!
I even got Laura to do it :D
This is my favorite picture:
Thursday morning I packed everything up and got a ride to the airport. My flight home was uneventful. I got picked up at the airport by my sister, then taken to my mom's house where there was a sign up on the house welcoming me home, and a surprise dinner.
Friday I got to go to work for part of the day, then I came home and chilled (watched tv). Friday night I stayed up talking to Laura while she was working on her next workshop projects.
Saturday I ran a few errands and got my hair cut, then went to dinner at my parent's.
I can't remember anymore the order that we saw these movies, but here are the last ones I saw:

Along with watching the Sherlock Holmes movies, we also watched the first season of the tv show Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch. Not movies necessarily, but still good entertainment :)

Overall, I had a wonderful trip to WA. I love going there. It is a time for me to relax, and not worry about life and what is going on in Utah. I made many new friends who I can't wait to see again.
I am very appreciative of Laura and James for letting me into their home for the length of my visit. I am grateful to the Clark's Creek Ward for accepting me with open arms and making me feel a part of their ward.
