To Those Born 1930 - 1979
I got this as an email and it was just too true to NOT post... so here ya go :)
To All The Kids Who Survived The 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
After that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes... Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this!
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And we aren't overweight. WHY? Because we were always outside playing... that's why! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendos and X Boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's. No surround sound or CD's. No cell phones, personal computers, internet, and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes... We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with the disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of... they actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives "for our own good." Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?
The quote of the month is by Jay Leno: "With hurricanes, tornadoes, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of swine flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

Update/Correction
Ok, so my mom just informed me that the morning I was born, there had been some rain... but there was definitely snow :)
Thanks for the update Mom! and I'll never forget!

Happiness Is...

Afternoon thunderstorms.
If I had had my camera with me, I would have gotten pictures of the rain and clouds as they seemingly crept upon our playground. It was a beautiful sight. I love rain storms, thunderstorms, lightning storms, generally almost any storm (I'll even include snow storms, as long as I don't have to stand out in it. Ha).
I keep thinking I was born on a day when it was raining and/or thundering (my mom says it's just not so). I LOVE rain storms. If I wasn't at work, I would have taken off my shoes and walked around - enjoying every moment of getting wet :)

Birthday Party
Last Saturday, the family came to my apartment to celebrate my birthday and my cousin's birthday. Here's a few photos to commemorate the event:
This flower is out in the garden, it was all by itself - there are a couple more there now.
Very pretty

The Jabber-talky
Last night, my niece started talking up a storm. It was so cute, I had to video record it. She probably talked for a good half an hour - all of it very similar to the video :) Such a cutie!
I only wish I knew what she was saying...

Easter Party (Yup, a Week After the Fact)
Today we had our family Easter party at Grandma's house. I decided to try and make something fun to bring to the party (besides a bag of chips). I fried up some tortilla strips and put cinnamon sugar on them. Everyone liked them and I think Chloe won for eating the most.

As we started last year, we went to the park to have a soccer game and this year we added bubbles. Jess and Avery had a lot of fun letting the wind do all the work... it was awesome.

Chloe and Jarren had a lot of fun chasing the bubbles and then trying to blow their own bubbles.

I had fun trying to get pictures of the bubbles as they came off the wand... this one is really big.

So many pretty colors

Chloe was so cute trying to blow bubbles...

Here's a shot of the soccer action.

Some of the little boys had fun playing on the playground.

Me and the cutest (older) niece and nephew!
I love you Avery and Jordan!!

When we came back from the park, we had our egg hunt... Our beloved Uncle has now been banned from hiding the Easter eggs - he was shoving them in his pockets instead of hiding them in the yard. HAHAHA!

Morning Game Answer
Answer is: B. Good guessing Ann and Kristina!
It's gross, I know. I use my mug every day and was very disgusted to see a spider fall out when I pulled the lid off. He'd been very busy, my straw was stuck to the lid by a web. I freaked out, then used soap and very hot water to clean it out. I had to push the incident out of my mind before I could drink out of the mug again.
Yuck.
Hopefully during this break from work no spiders decide to bunker down in my mug again... I think I left it in a safer place :) I guess I'll find out in a week.

Morning Game Question
First question, worth a pat on the back:
What happens when you get to work and try to fill up your mug with water?
A- You find dirt in the bottom of your mug.
B- A spider drops out of the lid when you pull it off.
C- You splash leftover water all over you.
D- You drop your mug on the floor and it breaks.
Leave a comment with your guess. I will also be posting this on Facebook... feel free to guess there too (but it won't be on Facebook until later today)
