SOUTH PASS, Wyo. – Three members of a Utah family have died from injuries suffered in a crash on South Pass last Thursday. The wife and parents of 49-year-old Eric Gustafson of Sandy, Utah, were killed. Eric Gustafson was driving the 2002 Ford Excursion on Highway 28 when it veered out of control on the icy roads.
His father, 76-year-old Jaret Gustafson, and his 50-year-old wife LuAnne, both died at the scene. His mother, 72-year-old Diane died the following day at Lander Memorial Hospital. Eric Gustafson’s three children survived the crash. They are 10-year-old Elyssa, 13-year-old Christopher and 16-year-old Elaura. Eric Gustafson and his children were treated and released at Lander Memorial Hospital. The family was traveling east toward Lander, according to reports. They were on their way to Powell to watch an older daughter’s basketball game.
Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan said Jaret and LuAnne Gustafson both died of trauma. Jaret Gustafson was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities said he was the only one in the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt. Wind was also a factor in the crash, said Wyoming state patrol trooper Brian Bragonier. Bragonier said the SUV went off the north side of the road and rolled multiple times down an embankment before coming to rest.
That was the first article I could find printed about the accident. I pray that the Gustafson's feel the love of our Heavenly Father, and from what I've read in other articles, they are surrounded by people who love them and are there to support them. *Our prayers go out to you!
